Indian Railways has increased the speed limit for trains running on the Ghaziabad-Meerut-Saharanpur route. The Northern Railway commissioned Double Distant Signals in the Pabli Khas and Meerut Cantt section to make this possible. A successful trial was conducted on April 15, 2026, using the Golden Temple Express.
What are the key changes in speed and route
The speed limit for trains in this section has been raised from 110 Kmph to 130 Kmph. This upgrade specifically affects the stretch between Pabli Khas and Meerut Cantt under the Northern Railway zone. Passengers will now experience faster journeys with a reduction in travel time by approximately 15 to 25 minutes.
How was the safety and testing managed
The Ministry of Railways implemented Double Distant Signalling to give loco pilots better visibility and advance information. This system reduces the need for sudden braking and improves punctuality. To ensure safety, officials conducted a total of 90 routine tests, including 57 tests at Meerut Cantt and 33 at Pabli Khas.
