Jodhpur’s Bhagat Ki Kothi railway station is set for a massive transformation as the Rail Ministry has greenlit a major redevelopment project worth **₹397.69 crore**. Officially approved on March 28, 2026, this infrastructure overhaul aims to turn the station into a premier high-tech coaching terminal. The project is expected to reach completion within two years of its commencement, playing a pivotal role in the region’s rail expansion plans leading up to 2030.
Key highlights of the Bhagat Ki Kothi redevelopment project include:
- Expansion from 3 to 6 platforms, each measuring 600 meters.
- Addition of 3 pit lines, 2 sick lines, and 2 washing-cum-stabling lines.
- Installation of an 800-meter wheel lathe and drop pit line.
- Introduction of an automatic coach washing plant.
- Development of Rajasthan’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train maintenance depot.
- Creation of a high-tech yard capable of maintaining 12 to 14 trains daily.
Enhancing Operational Efficiency
By upgrading the facilities at Bhagat Ki Kothi, Indian Railways aims to significantly reduce the operational burden currently placed on Jodhpur City Station. This strategic move will not only streamline train movements but also create the necessary space for future platform expansion and improved passenger amenities at the main city terminus. The creation of a dedicated maintenance depot for Vande Bharat sleeper trains marks a significant milestone for rail infrastructure in Rajasthan, ensuring that the next generation of high-speed travel is well-supported in the region.
Passenger Facilities and Connectivity
While the primary focus of this project is on technical infrastructure and coaching capabilities, the overall design is intended to improve the passenger experience through better station access and modernized facilities. Regarding local commute options, while there has been no official railway announcement regarding new railway-provided cab services, the station remains well-connected. Passengers can currently utilize various private cab and car rental services available in the Bhagat Ki Kothi area. These independent transport options continue to provide reliable connectivity for travelers as the station transitions into a critical hub for Jodhpur’s rail network.
