The Indian Railways is making significant progress on the ambitious 406-kilometer new rail line project connecting Ghaziabad and Sitapur. This infrastructure development is set to transform travel between Western Uttar Pradesh and the Awadh region by providing a direct and high-capacity corridor. Key highlights of the project include:

• An estimated project cost of **₹14,926 crore**.

• Construction of third and fourth railway lines to decongest the high-density Delhi-Guwahati network.

• Planned development of new stations including **Hapur, New Moradabad, New Rampur, New Bareilly, New Shahjahanpur, and New Sitapur**.

• Full integration of the **Kavach safety system** for enhanced passenger security.

• A target completion timeline set for the **2030-31 fiscal year**.

Strategic Importance and Capacity Building

The project gained momentum following the Union Cabinet approval on **April 18, 2026**. By adding third and fourth lines to this vital route, the Indian Railways aims to resolve long-standing congestion issues on the Delhi-Guwahati corridor, which currently operates well beyond its designed capacity. The initiative is not just about laying tracks; it is a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade designed to handle high-capacity freight and **semi-high-speed passenger operations**.

Boosting Local Economy and Connectivity

Beyond the operational benefits, the project is expected to become a major driver for regional development. The establishment of new stations in key towns like Hapur and Bareilly is anticipated to create significant **employment opportunities** and stimulate local economies. As the final survey progresses following the RTI disclosure dated **August 10, 2026**, residents and regular commuters can look forward to a more reliable and efficient rail network. With the project scheduled for completion within four years of its approval, this corridor stands as a cornerstone of the government’s plan to modernize the rail connectivity across Uttar Pradesh.
