The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is set to roll out the beta version of its revamped website on July 15, 2026. This major digital overhaul follows a 30-day deadline set by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw after he interacted with students from the Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, on June 11, 2026. The platform aims to resolve long-standing passenger grievances, including slow performance, complex CAPTCHA verification, and system crashes during high-demand Tatkal bookings.
- Beta launch date: July 15, 2026.
- Booking capacity: Increasing to 1.5 lakh tickets per minute.
- Inquiry speed: Boosting to 40 lakh enquiries per minute.
- Key improvements: Simplified interface, reduced CAPTCHA, and faster Tatkal booking.
A Smarter and Faster Booking Experience
The upcoming portal, developed jointly by IRCTC and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), marks a significant leap in technological infrastructure. The new system is designed to handle 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, which is a five-fold increase from the current 32,000 capacity. Furthermore, inquiry speeds are expected to see a ten-fold jump, rising from 4 lakh to 40 lakh enquiries per minute.
To ensure the platform meets user expectations, officials demonstrated the beta version to the MNIT Jaipur students on July 10, 2026, to solicit direct feedback. The revamped site focuses on a cleaner, more intuitive interface that minimizes the number of steps required to complete a transaction. Passengers can look forward to single-screen seat availability and a significantly expedited Tatkal booking process that reduces reliance on cumbersome CAPTCHA codes.
Advanced Features for All Passengers
Beyond speed and stability, the new website will introduce several user-centric features. These include a fare calendar, advanced seat selection options, and multilingual support to cater to a diverse user base across India. The platform is also being built with inclusivity in mind, featuring integrated facilities specifically tailored for Divyangjan, students, and patients—all accessible from a single, unified dashboard.
Following the beta launch, the system will undergo final refinements before a full public rollout. The integration of a new Passenger Reservation System (PRS) is expected to provide a smoother, more reliable experience for millions of rail commuters in the coming months.
