Indian Railways has successfully commissioned the KAVACH 4.0 safety system on the Delhi-Palwal route under Northern Railway. This update was completed on May 19, 2026, covering the section from Tilak Bridge (TKJ) to Palwal (PWL). The project aims to make train travel safer by using an indigenous Automatic Train Protection system developed by RDSO and manufactured by MEDHA.
What is KAVACH 4.0 and how does it work?
KAVACH 4.0 is a safety technology that prevents trains from colliding with each other. It monitors the train’s speed and position in real-time. If a driver crosses a red signal or exceeds the speed limit, the system automatically applies the brakes to stop the train. This reduces the risk of human error on busy tracks.
Key technical details of the Delhi-Palwal installation
The system covers 21.6 route kilometers and approximately 86 track kilometers. It has been installed at major stations including Tughlakabad, Okhla, Hazrat Nizamuddin, and Tilak Bridge. The setup uses a new optical fiber network for monitoring from the New Delhi control room.

Current reach of KAVACH across India
With the completion of the Delhi-Palwal section, the Northern Railway portion of the New Delhi-Mumbai corridor is now fully covered, excluding New Delhi station. Overall, KAVACH 4.0 has now expanded its coverage to more than 1300 route kilometers across five different railway zones in the country.
