Giridih MP Chandra Prakash Choudhary has formally requested Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to fast-track the long-pending Parasnath-Madhuban-Giridih railway line project. During a high-level meeting on August 16, 2026, the MP emphasized the necessity of resolving ongoing bottlenecks to ensure the project moves forward. The railway line is viewed as a critical infrastructure boost that will significantly improve connectivity for local residents and pilgrims alike.
Key details of the project development include:
- The proposed rail line spans a total length of 49 kilometers.
- The project was initially sanctioned in 2018-19 with an estimated cost of Rs 903 crore.
- The route will feature key stations including Chainpur, Madhuban, Kumhar Tola, Lakhiatand, and Salaiya.
- The central government previously allocated Rs 50 crore in the 2022-23 budget to initiate construction.
Overcoming Hurdles for Regional Growth
Since its approval, the project has faced persistent delays primarily due to land acquisition challenges and a lack of required financial contributions from the state government. While the central government had set aside initial funding, progress effectively stalled when the Jharkhand government failed to deposit its mandatory share of the project cost. MP Choudhary highlighted these issues during his discussion with the Railway Minister, seeking immediate intervention to resolve the funding stalemate.
Strategic Importance for Tourism and Connectivity
Beyond its role in regional development, the project is essential for religious tourism. The rail link is designed to connect major Jain pilgrimage sites at Parasnath and Madhuban, making these locations more accessible to thousands of devotees annually. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has acknowledged the strategic importance of this 49-kilometer link and provided assurances that the central government will prioritize its completion. Local residents and stakeholders remain hopeful that this renewed push will finally bring the much-anticipated rail connectivity to fruition.
