Can you change the name and age on a ticket?
You cannot change the name, age, or gender online through the IRCTC website or RailOne app once the ticket is booked. For confirmed e-tickets, you can transfer the ticket to a family member like parents, siblings, children, or spouse. This requires a written application to the Chief Reservation Supervisor at a railway station at least 24 hours before the train departs. You will need to provide the ticket printout, IDs of both passengers, and proof of relationship.
What are the rules for changing the travel date?
Currently, if you want to change the date, you must cancel the existing ticket and book a new one, which involves a cancellation fee. But from January 2026, Indian Railways will start a new facility to change the travel date of confirmed e-tickets online without any cancellation fee. Passengers will only pay the difference in fare if the new ticket is more expensive. This will be available on the IRCTC app and website if seats are available.
