What’s inside:

This article talks about the government’s efforts to ensure ration reaches the right people, the issue of e-KYC for ration cardholders, and the impact on food distribution at PDS shops.

The government is taking steps to ensure that ration reaches the correct and eligible individuals. In this regard, ration cardholders were instructed to complete e-KYC by December 30. However, there are still lakhs of people who have not completed the e-KYC process, especially in Patna district.

The non-completion of e-KYC for all individuals listed on ration cards may lead to difficulties in receiving food at PDS shops. Only those individuals whose Aadhaar details are updated in the ration card system will be able to avail of food supplies. Therefore, it is essential for all PDS shopkeepers to ensure e-KYC for remaining individuals.

In Patna, out of a total of 39.27 lakh individuals listed on ration cards, only 30.91 lakh have completed e-KYC. It is necessary to verify the remaining 8.35 lakh individuals. Failure to complete e-KYC may result in discrepancies in assessing beneficiaries, even though food supplies are provided at shops.

Under the National Food Security Act, it has become mandatory for all ration beneficiaries to complete e-KYC. Failure to do so by the specified date may cause inconvenience in receiving ration in the future. The government aims to make the Public Distribution System transparent and eliminate fake or ineligible cards.

Summary:

  • Government ensuring ration reaches eligible individuals

  • Importance of completing e-KYC for ration cardholders

  • Impact on food distribution at PDS shops

  • Mandatory e-KYC under National Food Security Act

  • Need for transparency in Public Distribution System
