Indian Railways is making rules stricter for men entering ladies reserved coaches. Under the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act 2026, the railway board has decided to increase the penalty for such violations. These new rules are likely to come into effect from July 1, 2026, across the entire country.

What is the new fine for male passengers

If a man is found traveling in a ladies reserved coach or berth, he will now have to pay a heavy fine of ₹2,500. Earlier, this penalty was only ₹250. The main goal of this increase is to ensure the safety and convenience of women passengers and stop unauthorized entry into these coaches.

Who will enforce these rules and what are the legal actions

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) will be responsible for implementing these rules. RPF personnel will receive special training and will conduct regular checks to remove unauthorized passengers from reserved areas. If a passenger refuses to pay the fine on the spot, they may face legal action in court, which could lead to a fine of up to ₹5,000 or imprisonment.

How will passengers be informed about these changes

Indian Railways will start a wide awareness campaign before the rules become effective. This will include announcements at stations, posters inside trains, and updates through digital platforms. Amit Kumar Singh, PRO of Prayagraj Division, North Central Railway, stated that women’s safety is a top priority and such special drives will continue in the future.
