To accommodate the massive surge in pilgrim footfall during the 2026 Shravani Mela, Indian Railways has rolled out comprehensive travel arrangements. This includes the introduction of five new pairs of special trains alongside the extension of existing services to ensure seamless connectivity for devotees traveling to the holy sites. Key highlights of the railway’s preparedness include:

• Five new pairs of special trains connecting Basukinath to Patna and Gorakhpur, Asansol to Gorakhpur, and Madhupur to Narkatiaganj.

• Extension of Gaya-Madhupur and Gaya-DDU special services until August 28.

• Unreserved train configurations consisting of 22 coaches, including 20 general/sleeper carriages and two SLR coaches.

• Round-the-clock monitoring through a dedicated war room in the DDU division from July 30 to August 28.

Enhanced Connectivity and Capacity

The introduction of these special services is aimed at streamlining travel for pilgrims heading toward the Shravani Mela festivities throughout August. By deploying 22-coach unreserved trains, the railways intend to maximize passenger capacity on high-demand routes. The extension of the Gaya-Madhupur and Gaya-DDU lines ensures that connectivity remains consistent for those traveling through the East Central Railway network during the peak of the festival.

Safety and Crowd Management

Recognizing the challenges of managing large crowds, the East Central Railway has taken proactive steps to maintain order. A special war room has been established to provide 24/7 monitoring of major stations, ensuring that any bottlenecks are addressed in real-time. To maintain a safe environment, RPF and GRP personnel, supported by commercial staff, have been strategically deployed across platforms, foot-over bridges, and station entry-exit points.

Senior railway officials, including DRM Sangrah Maurya and IG Dr. Michaelraj S., have confirmed that passenger safety is the primary focus. The administration is maintaining close coordination between the Eastern Railway and East Central Railway to ensure that the increased volume of travelers is managed without compromising operational standards. Passengers are advised to keep an eye on official station announcements and follow the guidance of railway personnel at the stations to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage.
