Key highlights of the Sawan special railway arrangements include:
- Direct connectivity via major trains like the NDLS DADN SF EXP (20156) and NDLS INDB EXP (12416), offering travel times of 10 to 11 hours.
- Additional capacity provided by the bi-weekly 04169/04170 Subedarganj-Indore special train, which includes a scheduled stop at Ujjain and will operate until the end of September.
- Local connectivity boosted by three pairs of daily unreserved “Mela Special” trains between Ujjain-Bhopal and Ujjain-Sant Hirdaram Nagar from July 28 to September 8, 2026.
- Station modifications at Ujjain, including a “no-vehicle zone” and streamlined traffic management.

For pilgrims originating from Delhi, the journey to Ujjain is well-supported by regular and high-speed services. Apart from the daily NDLS DADN SF EXP (20156) and NDLS INDB EXP (12416), the MALWA EXPRESS (12920) remains a popular choice for devotees. To supplement these, the 04169/04170 service between Subedarganj and Indore serves as a vital link, ensuring that pilgrims have consistent rail access throughout the peak Sawan season.

Recognizing the congestion risks at Ujjain station, railway authorities have implemented strict traffic protocols. A temporary “no-vehicle zone” has been established in front of the main entrance to prevent overcrowding. Furthermore, direct parking has been closed, and the station has transitioned to a single-lane pick-up and drop-off system to maintain orderly movement.
