Passengers planning to travel between Indore and Daund later this month should note that the Western Railway has announced the cancellation of the Indore–Daund Superfast Express (Train No. 22944) and the Daund–Indore Superfast Express (Train No. 22943) for three days. These services will remain suspended from July 25 to July 27, 2026, due to ongoing safety concerns caused by severe weather conditions in Maharashtra.

Key updates regarding these cancellations include:

  • Train No. 22944 (Indore–Daund) and Train No. 22943 (Daund–Indore) are cancelled from July 25 to July 27.
  • The decision follows continuous heavy rainfall and multiple landslides in the Pune section.
  • The disruptions are concentrated in the Karjat-Lonavala ghat section, which is vital for train operations.
  • Railway authorities advise passengers to check their train status on official platforms before heading to the station.

Impact of Severe Weather on Rail Infrastructure

According to Shri Mukesh Kumar, Public Relations Officer for Western Railway’s Ratlam Division, the cancellations are a direct result of the operational challenges posed by the monsoon. The Karjat-Lonavala ghat section has been particularly hard hit by extreme weather, leading to significant infrastructure damage. A major landslide that occurred on July 6 initially blocked all three railway lines in the region.

While railway engineers successfully restored the down and middle lines by July 14, the restoration work on the third railway line—the South East ghat section—remained in progress as of July 18. These ongoing repair efforts, combined with the risk of further landslides, have necessitated the cancellation of several trains to ensure passenger safety.

Travel Advisory for Passengers

Western Railway officials have urged commuters to remain updated on the status of their journeys. Given the volatile nature of the weather in the ghat sections, further service adjustments or short-terminations may be implemented by the authorities if conditions do not improve.

Before leaving for the station, travellers are encouraged to use the NTES (National Train Enquiry System) app or visit the official IRCTC website to confirm if their specific train is running. Passengers holding confirmed tickets for the cancelled dates are entitled to a full refund as per Indian Railways’ cancellation policies. The railway administration regrets the inconvenience caused by these safety-driven changes.
