West Central Railway is speeding up the process of laying a third track between the Jabalpur and Itarsi sections. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this project has been approved and is currently undergoing technical and administrative checks. This move will strengthen one of the busiest rail routes between Mumbai and Kolkata and allow trains to run at full speed towards Delhi.

🚨: New Train Announcement: Dhanbad Railway Division proposes direct train service to Saharsa।

What are the key details of the third line project?

The project is part of a larger 518-519 km corridor extending from Manikpur to Itarsi. Under the PM GatiShakti Yojana, the Network Planning Group (NPG) has reviewed and approved this expansion. The Railway Board has already given administrative approval for the project budget.

Estimated Cost 9,461 Crore Rupees
Key Sections Jabalpur, Itarsi, Manikpur
Target Speed Up to 130 km/h

How will this project benefit passengers and the region?

The third line will reduce train delays and allow premium trains like Vande Bharat to operate more efficiently. To avoid city traffic and reduce waiting times, railway bypasses will be built at major junctions including Jabalpur, Katni, and Satna. This will help in faster movement of agricultural and industrial goods.

Districts such as Jabalpur, Narmadapuram, Satna, Maihar, Katni, Narsinghpur, and Chitrakoot will see direct benefits. Railway officials have started preliminary work, including soil testing and surveys, to ensure the project moves forward once the final review is complete.
