Commuters in the Nahtaur area of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, are facing significant hardships as the local railway gate has remained closed for 20 days. The closure, which was confirmed as of April 26, 2026, is due to ongoing track repair work. This has disrupted the daily movement of thousands of people who rely on this crossing to reach essential government offices.

Why is the Nahtaur railway gate closed?
The Indian Railways is conducting Complete Track Renewal (CTR) work at the site. According to Senior Section Engineer Alok Ranjan, this project involves replacing point crossings, railway lines, and sleepers. While officials initially estimated the work would take four days and be completed by March 12, 2026, the closure has extended far beyond the promised timeline.
How are local residents and commuters affected?
The closure has created a major hurdle for people trying to access the following locations:
- Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office
- Tehsil and Circle Officer (CO) office
- Community Health Center (CHC)
- Other key government offices located across the tracks
Due to the closure, people are now forced to take longer alternative routes via Jaitra or the Nahtaur overbridge. This has led to increased travel time and higher expenses, which is particularly difficult for commuters during the current intense heat.
What is the current status of the repair work?
This is the third time in six months that the gate has been closed, with previous disruptions occurring in November and March. Railway officials have stated that work is being carried out on a war footing day and night to reopen the gate. During the repair period, trains were routed on the middle line at a reduced speed of 20 km/h.
