Indian Railways has issued a high alert in Madhya Pradesh due to rising temperatures. Extreme heat increases the risk of rail tracks expanding and bending, which can lead to accidents. To manage this, railway staff have been stationed every 2 kilometers to monitor the tracks closely.

- Special ‘de-stressing’ work is being done in areas where tracks were recently changed or screened.
- Officials are ensuring zero missing of pandrol clips and replacing old fittings.
- Ballast cleaning machines are being used to maintain proper stone cushioning on the tracks.
Who is monitoring the heat-related risks?
Braj Bhushan Singh Tomar from the Railway Board issued a letter on February 23, 2026, implementing six special rules for track safety. Rohit Malviya from West Central Railway confirmed that Hot Weather Patrolmen are monitoring Long Welded Rails. Senior officials like SSE, ADEN, and Senior DEN are conducting foot-plate inspections from engine cabins during the hottest part of the day to keep a direct eye on the track condition.
Why are some trains running late in MP?
Dharmendra Kumar Singh from Bhopal Rail Division stated that traffic pressure has increased due to the operation of Summer Special trains. Additionally, work on the third line is ongoing in several sections.
