The Sonpur Division of East Central Railway has launched a comprehensive and intensive ticket checking campaign aimed at curbing unauthorized travel and ensuring the financial health of the railway network. Under the leadership of Divisional Railway Manager Amit Saran and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Dheeraj Kumar, the division is focusing its efforts on major transit hubs, including Sonpur, Hajipur, Barauni, Begusarai, Mansi, Khagaria, and Naugachia. These operations are part of a broader strategy to maintain order and accountability across all Mail, Express, and passenger services.

  • 63,191 cases of ticket irregularities were detected in July 2026, earning ₹6.13 crore.
  • Total irregularities from April to July 2026 stand at 288,274 cases, with ₹21.64 crore recovered.
  • A specific major drive in July resulted in 3,369 cases and ₹33,15,675 in collected fines.
  • Railway authorities are strictly enforcing Section 137 and Section 138 of the Railways Act.

Strict Enforcement and Legal Compliance

The recent surge in ticket checking is a clear message to passengers that unauthorized travel will not be tolerated. By deploying dedicated teams from the Commercial Department and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the division is ensuring that every passenger on board holds a valid ticket. This initiative is vital for protecting railway revenue, which is essential for maintaining and upgrading passenger amenities across the network.

Railway officials have reminded the public that traveling without a ticket or with irregular documents is a punishable offense under the Railways Act. Section 137 and Section 138 provide the legal backing for these penalties, and the division remains committed to prosecuting those who attempt to bypass the ticketing system. Passengers are strongly advised to always carry valid travel documents and a government-issued photo ID to avoid legal trouble and unwanted fines during their journey. These intensified checks are expected to continue across the division to ensure a fair and lawful travel experience for all passengers.
