The Kavach system is now operational across the 190 km stretch of the Prayagraj-Kanpur rail section. This system was officially commissioned on March 22, 2026. To support this technology, 96 locomotives at the Kanpur and Jhansi sheds have been equipped with the anti-collision system to prevent accidents.
What are the updates on station and network upgrades?
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, work has been completed at 17 out of 46 targeted stations. On a larger scale, the Indian Railways has installed Kavach across 3,103 route kilometers, with work currently ongoing on another 24,427 route kilometers. The railway aims to expand this network to 9,000 route kilometers within the next two years.
