To tackle persistent traffic bottlenecks and improve connectivity, the Uttar Pradesh government is reviewing a major infrastructure proposal for the construction of five new railway overbridges (ROBs) across Sambhal. These vital infrastructure projects, which include associated culvert bridges and approach roads, are estimated to cost over 57 crore rupees. As of August 12, 2026, the proposal submitted by the Public Works Department (PWD) is awaiting final state approval.

Strategic Locations for New Connectivity
The proposed overbridges are set to transform travel in Chandausi and Bahjoi. In Chandausi, the plan targets the Baintri Gate on the Moradabad-Farrukhabad line, the crossing near Sipahi Lal Petrol Pump on Mal Godam Road, and the Chandausi-Sambhal road on the Bareilly-Aligarh line. Meanwhile, Bahjoi will see new ROBs on the Badaun-Bilsi-Bijnor route and the town’s main market area. Furthermore, six new culvert bridges are planned, including critical links at Nagla Khakam to Khetapur Ziarat and a replacement near Haribaba Inter College Gawan.
Addressing Daily Commuter Woes
The necessity for these structures is clear: at the Sipahi Lal Petrol Pump crossing alone, railway gates close approximately 25 times every day, creating massive traffic snarls for thousands of residents. Executive Engineer PWD, Sunil Prakash, confirmed that the department is working closely with the State Bridge Corporation (Setu Nigam) to secure funding and expedite execution.
Updates on Existing Infrastructure
While these new proposals move through the approval pipeline, work continues on the Mandi Samiti Crossing (36B) in Chandausi. This ongoing project, valued at ₹56.94 crore, has reached approximately 70% completion. Although the original deadline was December 2025, delays related to railway-specific technical works have pushed the expected completion date to October 2026. Once finalized, these combined efforts are expected to significantly streamline road and rail movement throughout the region.
