The Agra Division of Indian Railways has announced a ban on heavy vehicles on the Kheria Mod Railway Overbridge starting June 1, 2026. This decision comes as the bridge, built in 1970, has become structurally weak and unsafe for heavy loads. The railway administration has issued an official notification to ensure the safety of the general public.

Why is the Kheria Mod bridge being closed?
Sanjay Kumar Gautam, Public Relations Officer of the Agra Division, stated that the bridge is in a dilapidated condition. The girders are severely rusted and the concrete of the deck slab has deteriorated, leaving the rebar exposed. Because this is a highly frequented route, reconstruction is necessary to prevent any accidents.
What is the plan for reconstruction and closure?
The railway has requested permission from the district administration for a complete closure of the bridge for 90 days. This total shutdown is planned from September 1, 2026, to replace two critical spans of the bridge. The Traffic Police will manage diversions during this period to keep traffic moving.
Alternative routes for heavy vehicles
To avoid traffic jams and inconvenience, heavy vehicle drivers are advised to use the following alternative route:
- Malpura Road → Rohta Canal → Gwalior Road
