Indian Railways has officially approved the launch of a new, integrated express train service to improve connectivity between the historic regions of Awadh and Bundelkhand. By merging two existing services, the national transporter aims to provide a seamless travel experience for pilgrims, students, and daily commuters traveling between Chitrakoot, Pratapgarh, and Lucknow. This strategic move eliminates the previous requirement for passengers to change trains at Kanpur Central, ensuring a smoother journey for thousands of travelers.
Key highlights of the new train service include:
- Train Name: Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh-Chitrakootdham Karvi Express.
- Train Numbers: 14123/14124.
- Key Route: Chitrakootdham Karvi to Pratapgarh and Lucknow via Banda, Ghatampur, Kanpur Central, Unnao, and Rae Bareli.
- Capacity Upgrade: Coach count doubled from 12 to 24 to accommodate higher passenger demand.
- Official Approval: The Ministry of Railways confirmed the merger on August 8, 2026.
Enhanced Capacity and Seamless Connectivity
The decision to merge the Kanpur-Chitrakootdham Karvi Express (14109/14110) with the Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh-Kanpur Central Express (14123/14124) is a major boost for regional infrastructure. By doubling the number of coaches from 12 to 24, Indian Railways is directly addressing the persistent overcrowding issues often faced by commuters on these routes. This expansion ensures that more passengers can travel comfortably, providing much-needed relief to those commuting for employment, education, and trade.
Connecting Regions and Communities
This new integrated service is expected to benefit millions of people, particularly those traveling for religious pilgrimage or regional commerce. By establishing a direct link, the railway authorities are fostering better economic and social integration between the Bundelkhand and Awadh belts. The move reflects the ongoing commitment of the Railway Board to optimize existing resources while prioritizing passenger convenience. Travelers can now look forward to a more efficient transit experience that saves both time and the hassle of switching platforms at busy transit hubs like Kanpur Central.
