Gorakhpur Railway Station is getting a modern makeover to make travel easier for passengers. The North Eastern Railway (NER) is planning a 30-meter wide six-lane road at the main entrance. This new system will work like an airport where entry and exit paths will be separate to avoid traffic jams.
What are the key details of the new road project?
The construction of the six-lane road is expected to start in the last week of June. This road will have two lanes for entry, two for exit, and one dedicated lane for the footpath. To make space for this, the heritage rail engine and coach restaurant will be removed by June 20. Ramcivil India Construction Private Limited is handling the project on an EPC mode.
What other modern facilities are coming to the station?
The overall redevelopment of the station costs about ₹508.99 crore and is targeted for completion by May 2027. Passengers will get several new facilities including a roof plaza, food outlets, waiting halls, and a dedicated kids’ play area. Special provisions are also being made for divyangjan (specially-abled) passengers.
