NEET Re-Exam 2026: Indian Railways to run special trains and add extra coaches for students

Indian Railways is making major arrangements to handle the rush of students appearing for the NEET-UG Re-Examination on June 21, 2026. Several railway zones have announced special trains and additional coaches to ensure candidates reach their centers on time. Meanwhile, the Chhattisgarh High Court has passed a significant order allowing a jailed student to appear for the same exam.

What are the railway arrangements for NEET students?

Railway zones including Western Railway, West Central Railway, and South East Central Railway (SECR) are deploying extra resources. SECR will run special MEMU passenger trains between Korba-Durg and Chhindwara-Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Itwari on June 20 and 21. To manage the crowd, 40 extra general coaches will be added to 10 existing trains, and the Hasdev Express will be extended to Durg on June 21.

Which special trains are running in other zones?

Western Railway has announced three pairs of special trains on routes like Maninagar-Bandra Terminus and Okha-Gandhinagar Capital. In Madhya Pradesh, West Central Railway will operate special trains connecting Indore, Bhopal, and Ratlam on June 20. These trains will have 17 coaches, including 13 sleeper and 2 general class coaches to help students and their families travel comfortably.

What was the Chhattisgarh High Court order?

Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha ordered that Kunal Tarunakar, a 21-year-old student in Raipur Central Jail, be allowed to take the NEET exam at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Raipur. The court directed the Raipur Police Commissioner and Jail Superintendent to provide security and study materials. The student is in custody under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and must be returned to jail immediately after the exam.
