Indian Railways is set to boost connectivity between Bihar and Gujarat as the Patna-Ahmedabad Amrit Bharat Express is scheduled to be extended to Bhagalpur. This strategic expansion, expected to be operational by November 2026, promises to provide a direct and efficient travel link for passengers traveling between the two states. Key highlights of this upcoming development include:
- Extension Deadline: The service is slated to reach Bhagalpur by November 2026.
- Train Composition: The train will operate with 22 coaches, exclusively featuring sleeper and general class compartments.
- Modern Technology: The service will utilize push-pull technology to ensure faster acceleration and smoother operations.
- New Stoppages: Commercial halts have been confirmed at Sultanpur, Jamalpur, and Abhaypur stations between Kiul and Bhagalpur.
- Proposed Schedule: The train is planned to arrive at Bhagalpur at 6:25 AM and depart for Ahmedabad at 4:30 PM every Friday.
Strategic Connectivity for Bihar
This project comes as a major relief for commuters who frequently travel between the industrial hubs of Gujarat and the eastern regions of Bihar. The extension received a significant push following advocacy efforts by public representatives, including Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) and former district council member Ashutosh Kumar. Technical feasibility for the route was thoroughly assessed by the Malda Railway Division, ensuring the infrastructure is prepared to handle the extended service.
Operational Enhancements
With the in-principle approval granted by both the Eastern Railway and East Central Railway, the expansion marks a concerted effort to modernize rail infrastructure in the region. By integrating the Amrit Bharat Express—which is designed for cost-effective yet high-speed travel—into the Bhagalpur network, the Railways aims to reduce travel time and provide a more comfortable journey for passengers in non-AC classes. As the project moves toward its 2026 deadline, it stands as a testament to the ongoing efforts to connect underserved regions with major metropolitan centers across India.
