Passengers travelling through the Varanasi Division of the Northeastern Railway should prepare for significant travel adjustments as infrastructure development takes center stage. To facilitate critical doubling and non-interlocking work, the railway administration has announced a series of cancellations, diversions, and short terminations affecting services between July 16 and July 21, 2026, with the most severe impact expected on July 20.
- Full Cancellations: Prayagraj-Muzaffarpur Express (14111/14112) on July 20; Nakaha Jungle-Narkatiyaganj Passenger (55040) and Chhapra-Gorakhpur Passenger (55055/55056) on July 20 and 21.
- Route Diversions: Several express trains, including the Amritsar-Darbhanga Express (15212), Guwahati-Jammutawi Express (15651), Amritsar-Saharsa Express (15532), Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express (15903), and Howrah-Kathgodam Express (13019), will run on diverted routes on July 20.
- Short Terminations: The Banaras-Gorakhpur Express (15104) will be short-terminated or originated at Deoria Sadar on July 20 and 21.
- Infrastructure Goal: These works are essential for long-term network strengthening, with a final safety inspection by the CRS scheduled for July 21.
Understanding the Impact on Travel
The ongoing engineering work is part of a strategic effort to enhance the capacity of the Gorakhpur-Unaula rail section. According to Northeastern Railway CPRO Sumit Kumar, these infrastructure upgrades are vital for ensuring faster, safer, and more reliable train operations in the future. While the temporary disruption may cause inconvenience, the modernization of this section is expected to significantly improve track efficiency once the work is completed.
Passenger Advisory
Given the scale of these operational changes, passengers with confirmed tickets for travel between July 16 and July 21 are strongly advised to stay updated. Railway officials have urged travelers to verify their train’s latest status, schedule, and route before heading to the station. You can check the current status via the official IRCTC website, the NTES app, or by contacting railway helpline numbers. Staying informed will help you plan your journey effectively and avoid last-minute hassles at the station.
