The Samastipur Rail Division is moving forward with the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to transform travel experiences across its network. While the initiative promises world-class amenities, the division is balancing significant infrastructure milestones with ongoing construction challenges at specific transit points.
Key highlights of the Samastipur Division modernization drive:
• Six stations—Salona, Saharsa Junction, Simri Bakhtiyarpur, Banmankhi, Madhepura, and Supaul—are complete and awaiting inauguration.
• A special Project Supervision Agency under the Gati Shakti scheme will monitor progress at 20 major stations.
• Operations were impacted by necessary construction-related train cancellations and diversions between July 16 and July 21, 2026.
• Persistent funding shortages have led to significant delays at Shahpur Patori Railway Station.
Modernizing Passenger Infrastructure
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is designed to redefine the railway experience by integrating modern facilities into existing infrastructure. Passengers can look forward to roof plazas, dedicated shopping zones, food courts, and children’s play areas. The comprehensive redesign also includes multi-level parking, the installation of lifts and escalators, and the creation of executive lounges. Furthermore, the division is prioritizing accessibility with special provisions for persons with disabilities and a complete renovation of platform surfaces to ensure comfort and safety for all commuters.
Status of Completed and Ongoing Projects
As of April-May 2026, six stations have reached completion. According to Railway Public Relations Officer R.K. Singh, the division has submitted video reports to higher authorities, and the process to finalize official inauguration dates is currently underway. This follows the vision set forth in February 2024 by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Vinay Srivastava, who aimed to elevate nine stations to world-class standards.
However, progress is not uniform across all sites. Reports from July 14, 2026, highlighted that Shahpur Patori Railway Station remains in its initial construction phase after two and a half years, largely due to fund shortages. To mitigate such issues and ensure quality control, the Central Government announced on July 3, 2026, that a special Project Supervision Agency will oversee construction at 20 major stations within the division.
These infrastructure efforts align with broader parliamentary discussions held on June 21, 2026, where local representatives submitted memoranda urging for the expansion and improvement of regional rail services. While the division works to resolve operational disruptions caused by recent commissioning work, the focus remains on delivering a modernized, efficient railway network for the people of Samastipur.
