The transformation of Manaknagar Railway Station in Lucknow is officially underway, with the Northern Railway’s Lucknow Division setting an ambitious April 2027 deadline for the completion of the project. As part of the prestigious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the station is undergoing a significant facelift with an estimated investment of ₹16.52 crore. The project is designed to turn the station into a modern transit hub, effectively serving as a satellite station to reduce passenger congestion at Lucknow’s primary railway terminals.
Key highlights of the Manaknagar station redevelopment project include:
- Construction of a brand new two-story station building.
- Installation of modern lifts to improve accessibility for all passengers.
- Upgradation of passenger amenities, including modern waiting rooms and hygienic toilets.
- Development of an underpass to replace the existing level crossing, ensuring smoother traffic flow in the area.
A New Era for Indian Railway Infrastructure
Manaknagar is one of 10 stations in Lucknow selected for comprehensive redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Launched in December 2022, this nationwide initiative focuses on long-term master planning to provide stations with world-class facilities. As noted by Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw on July 23, 2026, the scheme marks a pivotal shift in how Indian Railways approaches infrastructure, prioritizing universal accessibility, safety, and comfort.
Beyond structural changes, the revamped stations under this scheme are equipped with grand entrance gates, high-mast lighting, platform shelters, and free Wi-Fi. The initiative also places a strong emphasis on sustainability and local heritage. By integrating ‘One Station One Product’ kiosks, the railways are actively promoting local artisans and products while adopting eco-friendly construction practices.
The scale of this national project is massive, with the Ministry of Railways successfully completing the redevelopment of 261 out of 1,340 identified stations as of July 2026. For the residents of Lucknow and daily commuters, the Manaknagar project represents a vital step toward a more efficient, comfortable, and modern rail travel experience.
