Passengers traveling between Madhya Pradesh and the Northeast region can now enjoy a significantly improved journey as the Rani Kamalapati–Agartala Special Express has officially transitioned to modern LHB technology. West Central Railway has upgraded the train to 22 Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches, ensuring higher safety standards and enhanced passenger comfort for this long-distance route.
- Train No. 01665 departed from Rani Kamalapati with the new rake on July 23, 2026.
- The return service, Train No. 01666, will begin LHB operations from Agartala on July 26, 2026.
- The new composition includes two AC-2 Tier, five AC-3 Tier, one AC-3 Economy, eight Sleeper, and four General coaches.
- The rake is completed by one Guard-cum-luggage van and one Generator car.
Why LHB Coaches Matter for Passengers
The shift from older Integral Coach Factory (ICF) coaches to LHB technology is a major leap forward for Indian Railways. These coaches, based on German technology, are engineered with an anti-telescopic design, which is a critical safety feature that prevents coaches from piling onto each other in the event of a collision. Furthermore, the LHB design is known for its superior braking systems and enhanced stability, which drastically reduces the risk of derailment and ensures the train remains steady even at higher speeds.
