Indian Railways has officially extended the services of several special trains to manage the consistently high passenger demand across the country. The Northeast Railway (NER) confirmed on July 24, 2026, that seven pairs of special trains will continue operations through September 2026, ensuring that passengers have reliable travel options for their upcoming journeys. Following this, on July 30, 2026, the General Railway Administration announced an additional increase in trip frequency for seven more pairs of special services connecting key cities like Mumbai, Patna, Ayodhya, and Indore.
- Extended Services: Operations for 14 pairs of special trains have been increased to accommodate passenger rush.
- Key Routes: Services include connectivity between Vadodara, Mumbai, Surat, Ahmedabad, Gorakhpur, Katihar, and more.

Details of the Northeast Railway Extension
The first batch of extensions includes popular routes such as Vadodara-Gorakhpur, Vadodara-Mau, Mumbai Central-Katihar, Mumbai Central-Banaras, Pratapnagar-Lalkuan, Surat-Chhapra, and Ahmedabad-Darbhanga. For these services, the Vadodara-Gorakhpur, Vadodara-Mau, Mumbai Central-Banaras, Pratapnagar-Lalkuan, and Surat-Chhapra specials have been granted nine additional trips each. Additionally, the Mumbai Central-Katihar special will run for five extra trips, while the Ahmedabad-Darbhanga service receives six additional trips.
Additional Relief for Major Corridors
To further support travelers, the railway administration has extended several high-demand weekly specials. The Mumbai Central-Kanpur Anwarganj (09185/09186) weekly special will run for five additional trips until August 30 and 31, 2026. Furthermore, the Udhna-Ayodhya Cantt (09093/09094 and 09097/09098) services each receive four extra trips. Other key extensions include the Udhna-Malda Town (09033/09034) with five extra trips, the Gandhidham-Bhagalpur (09451/09452) with four, and the Ahmedabad-Patna (09447/09448), which will operate for one additional trip in each direction ending by August 7, 2026.
