Visakhapatnam Coaching Yard Upgrades
In a major boost to regional operations, the Indian Railways approved the ₹299 crore remodelling of the Visakhapatnam Coaching Yard on July 31, 2026. This project is vital for the South Coast Railway, which officially became fully operational on June 1, 2026. The upgrade aims to substantially increase the station’s handling capacity and improve train punctuality.
Key features of the yard remodelling include the construction of six additional platforms and railway lines, the creation of a new entrance on the eastern side of the station, and the implementation of advanced electronic interlocking systems. These enhancements are expected to provide modern amenities and a smoother travel experience for thousands of daily passengers, further solidifying Andhra Pradesh’s position as a key hub in the national rail network.
