Indian Railways has officially announced a temporary suspension of parcel booking services from the Agra Rail Division to Delhi. This precautionary measure will remain in effect for four days, starting from August 12 and continuing until August 15, to ensure heightened security across the national capital during the Independence Day celebrations. Regular booking operations are scheduled to resume on August 16.
Key details of the suspension include:
- Dates of suspension: August 12 to August 15.
- Affected Agra stations: Agra Cantt, Agra Fort, Raja ki Mandi, and Eidgah.
- Affected Delhi stations: New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Delhi Sarai Rohilla.
- Exceptions: Registered newspapers and magazines are permitted, and personal luggage remains allowed in passenger coaches.
Security Protocols and Operational Impact
This annual security exercise is conducted to mitigate risks during the high-alert period surrounding August 15, which sees significant VVIP movement and increased security demands in Delhi. Sanjay Kumar Gautam, the Public Relations Officer for the Agra Rail Division, confirmed that the directive is part of the standard security protocol. To maintain safety, railway authorities will ensure that parcel godowns and platforms remain clear of all packages and packing materials during this four-day window.
While the Agra division is strictly enforcing these measures, it is worth noting that similar restrictions have been implemented across other railway divisions, including Chakradharpur and Jabalpur, regarding parcel shipments destined for Delhi.
Advice for Passengers and Traders
For those who rely on rail logistics for business or personal requirements, the railway administration advises planning ahead. If you have essential goods that need to be transported to Delhi, it is recommended to complete these shipments before August 12. Alternatively, those with urgent cargo needs during the restricted window may need to explore private logistics services. Passengers are reminded that while parcel bookings are halted, standard passenger travel remains unaffected, and personal luggage will continue to be permitted on trains as usual.
