A tragic incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, June 14, 2026, between Hetampur and Gher stations in the Morena and Dholpur region. Passengers of the Khajuraho-Udaipur Intercity Express panicked after rumors spread about a mobile phone exploding and catching fire in a general coach. This led to chain pulling and a subsequent accident that claimed several lives.

What caused the accident and who were the victims?

The accident happened between 4:00 PM and 4:15 PM when passengers mistakenly believed a fire had broken out due to a mobile phone overheating. In a state of panic, someone pulled the emergency chain, and passengers rushed out of the train onto the tracks. This resulted in a collision with the Firozpur-Seoni Patalkot Express. The confirmed deceased include three women and a child: Afreen (35), Asad Khan (4), Shakuntala (60), and Virma Devi (60). Several other passengers sustained injuries.

What is the official stand of North Central Railway?

North Central Railway (NCR) issued a statement clarifying that there was no actual fire on the train. The administration stated that the accident occurred because passengers pulled the chain and crossed the tracks at an unauthorized location. Railway officials have denied any fault on the part of the railway system. A detailed investigation has been ordered to find out how the rumor spread and who pulled the chain.
