Passengers arriving at Bilaspur Railway Station in Chhattisgarh will soon have a much easier time navigating the city. The station is set to launch a dedicated bike rental service by the end of August, offering travelers a seamless alternative to waiting for local auto-rickshaws or public transport. This initiative is designed to provide greater mobility for tourists and business travelers alike, with operations scheduled to run daily from 9 AM to 9 PM.
- Launch Timeline: Service expected to be operational by the end of August.
- Operational Hours: Daily service available from 9 AM to 9 PM.
- Eco-friendly Fleet: Inclusion of electric bikes (e-bikes) with six dedicated charging stations.
- Documentation Required: Passengers must provide a valid driving license and Aadhaar card.
Focus on Sustainability and Convenience
To support the growing demand for sustainable travel, the station is installing six dedicated electric vehicle charging stations at Bilaspur Junction. This ensures that the e-bike fleet remains fully charged and ready for passengers throughout the day. While the service aims to simplify local commuting, users should be prepared to provide a valid driving license and their Aadhaar card for verification. Additionally, some rental tiers may require passengers to submit a security deposit to ensure the safety of the rented vehicles.
Expanding the Railway Rental Model
This move by Bilaspur Junction aligns with a broader strategy by Indian Railways to transform major transit hubs into multimodal transport centers. Similar successful models are already in place at Agra Cantt, as well as Kozhikode and Tiruchi Railway Stations, where e-bike rentals have received positive feedback from commuters. The initiative implemented at Kozhikode serves as a blueprint for a larger, phased rollout that Indian Railways plans to execute across major stations nationwide by 2026. By bridging the ‘last-mile’ connectivity gap, these rental services are significantly enhancing the overall passenger experience across the Indian Railways network.
