Agra is set for a major transport overhaul with the development of a high-speed rail corridor and the expansion of the Agra Metro. The Railway Board recently directed the NHSRCL to update the Detailed Project Report for the Delhi-Varanasi corridor. These projects will significantly reduce travel time and boost connectivity across the region.

What are the details of the Delhi-Varanasi Bullet Train project

The proposed 958 km long corridor will connect Delhi and Varanasi, including a 123 km branch line from Lucknow to Ayodhya. It is designed for speeds up to 350 km/h, which could bring the travel time between Delhi and Varanasi down to approximately 2 hours 37 minutes. The project includes 12-13 stations, covering key cities like Noida, Jewar, Mathura, Agra, and Prayagraj. Land acquisition is expected to begin by late 2026 or 2027, with a target completion date of 2041.

What is the current status of Agra Metro and Station upgrades

Agra Metro is progressing through two main corridors. The first corridor from Taj East Gate to Sikandra is expected to be finished by June 2026. The second corridor, connecting Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar, has a target completion date of June 2027. Additionally, under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, the Eidgah Agra Junction and Fatehabad stations have been redeveloped with investments of ₹12.8 crore and ₹2.6 crore respectively.
