The Ministry of Railways has shared a major update on India’s first high-speed rail project. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor is now targeted for completion by August 15, 2027. Along with this, the government has planned a massive expansion of the high-speed network across the country.

What are the key features of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train

The MAHSR project spans 508 km and will allow trains to run at speeds up to 320 kmph. This will reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to approximately 2 hours. The project includes several engineering marvels, including 25 river bridges and India’s first undersea rail tunnel.

Details of new high-speed corridors and upcoming projects

In the Budget 2026-27, the government announced seven new high-speed rail corridors covering nearly 4,000 km. Additionally, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced a new bullet train project connecting Delhi and Siliguri, which will cut travel time from 20 hours to just six hours.

Recent Railway reforms and updates

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw introduced the Reform Express initiative to improve passenger and cargo services. Key updates include an upgraded IRCTC website launching by July 15, 2026, and new rules for digital boarding station changes. The ministry also approved a commercial stop for the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express at Anantnag.
