The construction of India’s first underground bullet train station at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai is moving forward quickly. This station will serve as the southern end of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor. The project uses Japan’s Shinkansen technology and is being managed by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).

What are the main features of the BKC station?
The station is being built 32 meters below the ground, which is roughly the height of a 10-story building. It will have six platforms, and each platform will be about 414 meters long to fit 16-coach E5 Series Shinkansen trains. This is the only underground station on the entire route from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.
What is the current progress and timeline?
The MEIL-HCC Joint Venture is handling the design and construction of the station. While the overall corridor’s first service is expected to start in August 2027, the BKC station is expected to be ready by 2028. Recent updates show that a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) was lowered at Vikhroli in May 2026 to dig a 6 km tunnel leading to the BKC station.
