The transformation of Shamli Railway Station under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is set to reach a major milestone this week. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the renovated station premises on Friday, July 16, 2026. The event is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM IST and will last for approximately 50 minutes. While the Prime Minister will join the ceremony virtually from Jalandhar, the primary event for his national address will be held at Jind Railway Station. For the residents of Shamli, a live telecast of the Prime Minister’s program will be screened on a large LED display installed at Platform Number One.
Key highlights of the inauguration and station upgrade include:
- The redevelopment project was completed at a cost of approximately ₹24.95 crore.
- The station now features a 12-meter wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) equipped with modern lifts.
- New amenities include AC and non-AC waiting rooms, improved platform surfaces, and enhanced shelters.
- Infrastructure is now fully Divyangjan-friendly, featuring tactile pathways, ramps, and accessible toilets.
- Digital upgrades include high-speed Wi-Fi, modern announcement systems, and new digital display boards.
A Modernized Transit Hub
Following an inspection on July 10, 2026, Pushpesh Raman Tripathi, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Delhi Division, confirmed that the station is fully prepared for operations. The renovation focuses on passenger comfort and sustainability, incorporating green energy concepts into the new station building design. Beyond the building itself, the project includes an organized parking area and a significantly improved circulating area to ensure smoother traffic flow for passengers.
Vision of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a flagship initiative aimed at modernizing railway stations across India to provide world-class facilities. Prime Minister Modi had laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Shamli and 32 other stations in the Delhi Division back in August 2022. As of mid-2026, the national scope of this initiative has grown to include over 1,338 stations, with 122 stations already completed in recent phases. The inauguration ceremony in Shamli will be attended by local dignitaries and public representatives, with cultural performances by students from Sarti Devi Rajaram School adding to the day’s celebrations.
