Railway passengers travelling through the Asansol and Adra divisions are facing significant travel disruptions as Indian Railways undertakes essential infrastructure and track maintenance projects. These works, which include pre-Non-Interlocking (NI) and NI operations, are being carried out to bolster safety and improve the long-term reliability of the rail network. Passengers should note that these upgrades have led to a series of cancellations, route diversions, and short-terminations across several key MEMU services.

  • Asansol Division: Extensive track upgrades at Mugma station have resulted in the cancellation of four trains and the rerouting of several others, effective from July 24, 2026.
  • Adra Division: A week-long rolling block is in effect until July 26, 2026, causing widespread disruption to MEMU passenger services.
  • Extended Work: Maintenance and security upgrades in the Asansol division are scheduled to continue in various sections until August 13, 2026.
  • Passenger Advisory: Travellers are urged to check train status via the NTES app, the IRCTC website, or station enquiry counters before leaving for the station.

Impact on MEMU Services

The infrastructure projects have specifically impacted daily commuters relying on MEMU trains. In the Adra Division, the 68046/68045 Asansol–Adra–Asansol MEMU Passenger is cancelled until July 26, 2026. Similarly, the 63594/63593 Asansol–Purulia–Asansol MEMU Passenger faces cancellations on several scheduled dates during this period.

Further maintenance work under the Eastern Railway’s Asansol Division is impacting the 63546 Jasidih–Andal MEMU Passenger and the 63509/63510 Bardhaman–Jhajha MEMU Passenger, with specific disruptions noted for July 24, 2026. These blocks are part of a broader safety initiative by the railway authorities to modernize tracks and signaling systems.

Travel Planning and Safety

While these changes may cause temporary inconvenience, railway officials have emphasized that these measures are crucial for enhancing passenger safety and strengthening the overall rail network. Passengers whose trains are affected are advised to plan their journeys accordingly or cancel their tickets if the alternative arrangements do not meet their requirements. It is recommended to use official railway channels to stay updated on the latest schedule changes to avoid last-minute hassles at the station.
