This move is designed to eliminate long queues, prevent overcrowding, and curb the influence of touts, ensuring a fairer booking experience for genuine passengers.
Key highlights of the new Tatkal booking procedure include:
- AC Class tokens: Issued between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM; bookings start at 10:00 AM.
- Sleeper Class tokens: Issued between 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM; bookings start at 11:00 AM.
- Mandatory ID: Valid photo identification like an Aadhaar card is required to receive a non-transferable token.
- Controlled Issuance: Approximately 10 tokens for AC and 15 for non-AC classes will be issued per counter, subject to adjustment based on demand.
Streamlining Passenger Experience
To maintain order and transparency, the railway authorities have decided that priority will be given to passengers booking for themselves or their immediate family members. Each reservation counter will maintain a dedicated register to record the token number and the passenger’s name, ensuring that the process remains accountable. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) will be on-site to assist with crowd management and ensure that the new guidelines are followed strictly.
Clear Communication and Accessibility
Recognizing the importance of clear information, the West Central Railway has confirmed that the complete timetable and the new token distribution procedure will be displayed in both Hindi and English at all railway reservation centers. This initiative is expected to provide significant relief to commuters across the Bhopal and Jabalpur Divisions, who have previously faced challenges during the high-pressure Tatkal booking window. By digitizing the tracking of these tokens through physical logs, the administration aims to foster a more organized and stress-free environment for all rail travellers.
