Indian Railways has launched a major initiative to support passengers traveling in general coaches during the peak summer season. Starting from April 15, 2026, a new system has been implemented where cold drinking water is delivered directly to passengers at their seats. This service, which began at Prayagraj Junction, is designed to reduce the struggle of passengers who often find it difficult to leave their seats to find water on crowded platforms.

Which stations and organizations are involved in this initiative?
The North Central Railway administration has partnered with 19 non-governmental organizations to ensure the success of this mission. Key social groups like the Red Cross, Lions Club, and Bharat Vikas Parishad are providing dedicated volunteers for this service. These volunteers carry water trolleys and traditional clay pots to reach the windows and doors of general coaches during train halts. The primary goal is to manage the crowd at platform water taps and make travel more comfortable for common people.

This facility is being rolled out across 17 important stations under the North Central Railway jurisdiction. Officials have prioritised stations with high footfall to maximize the impact of this relief work. The following stations are part of this summer special arrangement:
- Kanpur Central and Aligarh
- Agra and Mathura
- Jhansi and Gwalior
- Tundla and Mirzapur
- Prayagraj Junction
CPRO Shashikant Tripathi stated that the priority is to make the journey easier for passengers in general coaches, who make up the largest part of the traveling public. North Central Railway General Manager Naresh Pal Singh also emphasized that this facility will benefit both passengers and railway staff by managing platform congestion effectively.
