Indian Railways is taking several steps to manage the heavy rush of passengers during the summer vacation and wedding season. Many long-distance trains are currently facing a ‘no-room’ situation with waiting lists crossing 100. To provide relief, the railway administration is adding extra coaches and operating special trains on high-demand routes.

Which routes are facing the most rush and what is the solution?

Trains heading towards Ahmedabad, Amritsar, and Jammu Tawi are seeing the highest demand, with almost no seats available for the next two months. To handle this, the railways decided to add 132 extra coaches across 52 pairs of trains. Specifically, 30 extra coaches were added to 10 trains running from Sikar district, and additional sleeper coaches were attached to the Padmavat and Ayodhya Express at Hapur station.

What are the new special train announcements?

A daily summer special train (01415/01416) will run between Pune and Gorakhpur from May 15 to July 15. This train will complete 62 trips with 18 coaches including AC, Sleeper, and General classes, benefiting passengers in Madhya Pradesh via Itarsi, Rani Kamalapati, and Bina Junction. Overall, Indian Railways plans to run 18,262 special train trips between April 15 and July 15, 2026.

How is the railway managing crowd control at stations?

At Udhna station, the railway implemented modern ‘Queue Management’ and ‘Controlled Boarding’ systems. This helped in managing over 23,000 passengers in a single day without any untoward incidents. Additionally, two special trains are being operated at 9:40 PM and 11:30 PM to reduce platform crowding. Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has reviewed these arrangements to ensure a safe journey for all.

Sikar District 30 Extra Coaches Added to 10 trains
Udhna Station Queue Management 23,000+ passengers handled
