North Central Railway has started the tender process to develop Subedarganj station as a powerful satellite station for Prayagraj Junction. The project aims to transform the station into a full terminal to handle more trains and reduce the crowd at the main junction. This development is a key part of the preparations for the Kumbh Mela 2031.
What are the new infrastructure changes at Subedarganj?
The railway will build two new platforms, numbered seven and eight, increasing the total count from six to eight. A new foot over bridge will be constructed from platform one to connect all eight platforms. To make space, current line numbers two and three will be removed, ensuring all platforms are in a straight line. The station will also get a new entrance, ticket counters, and ramps for elderly and disabled passengers on the GT Road side.
Budget, timeline and passenger facilities
CPRO Shashikant Tripathi stated that a budget of 13 crore rupees has been released for this work. The railway aims to complete the entire project within 18 months. Passengers will get modern facilities including AC waiting rooms, digital coach guidance systems, and updated retiring rooms. For security, 58 high-tech CCTV cameras will be installed across the station complex.
