The Bihar government is expanding the Dial-112 emergency helpline to make it more effective for commuters. Additional Director General Amit Lodha announced on May 20, 2026, that the service will now be linked with the Railway, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and the Road Transport Department. This move will ensure that people facing emergencies on trains or highways get immediate police and medical assistance.

ℹ️: Indian Railways cleanliness rules: Passengers to face fine up to ₹500 for littering at stations and trains।

What are the new features of Dial-112 expansion

To improve safety, the government will install panic buttons in public places such as parks and major markets. These buttons will also be placed in cars to send instant alerts to the Dial-112 center. The system is being upgraded to a Next Generation Emergency Response Support System (NGERSS) which will use GIS mapping and social media integration to track and reach victims faster.

Current performance and future goals of the system

Since its launch on July 6, 2022, Dial-112 has helped over 55 lakh people. The current average response time is 11 minutes, and the department plans to reduce this further in the next two months by adding more manpower and technology. A new advanced Control and Command Center is also being built in Rajiv Nagar, Patna, with an estimated cost of 172 crore rupees.

Metric Details
Total Cases Handled Over 55 Lakh
Average Response Time 11 Minutes
Current Vehicle Fleet 1833 (1283 four-wheelers, 550 two-wheelers)
Crime Reduction (Murder) 22% Decrease
Crime Reduction (Robbery) 38% Decrease
Crime Reduction (Women) 21% Decrease

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
