The railway crossing at Indara on the Mau-Madhuban route is now closed to all traffic. This decision follows the start of the overbridge construction work by North Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur. The closure is effective from June 5, 2026, and will remain in place until the project is finished.
What are the project details and cost
The Indara railway overbridge is being built with a total budget of ₹64.75 crore. The bridge will be 700 meters long and will stand on 21 pillars. The construction agency M/S SMB GC (JV) is currently working on the pillars as per the approved drawings. This project was approved by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 28, 2024.
Who will benefit and what are the alternative routes
Once completed, this bridge will help around 20 lakh people from Madhuban, Ghosi, and Sadar Tehsil by reducing traffic jams. Since heavy vehicles are strictly banned at the crossing, the Railway Public Relations Officer Ashok Kumar has suggested using these alternative paths:
- Ballia Mod
- Kopaganj
- Majhwara
