The Railway Board has officially approved the merger of the 14109/14110 Chitrakutdham Karwi-Kanpur Central Express and the 14123/14124 Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh-Kanpur Central Express. This strategic decision, finalized between August 8th and 10th, 2026, is set to transform travel between the Bundelkhand and Awadh regions by eliminating the need for passengers to switch trains at Kanpur Central.
Key highlights of the new rail service include:
• The new service will operate as the 14123/14124 Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh-Chitrakutdham Karwi Express.
• Passengers will now enjoy direct rail connectivity between Pratapgarh and Chitrakoot.
• The train’s capacity is being doubled from 12 to 24 coaches to accommodate more travelers.
• The route covers major stations including Pratapgarh, Rae Bareli, Lucknow, Kanpur, Banda, Atarra, and Chitrakoot.
Enhanced Connectivity and Passenger Comfort
Previously, travelers moving between the two regions were forced to endure the inconvenience of changing trains at Kanpur Central. By merging these two services, Indian Railways is streamlining operations and providing a seamless travel experience for pilgrims, tourists, students, and professionals. This integrated route not only links two major pilgrimage hubs but also significantly improves transit options for passengers heading toward Lucknow and other essential destinations in central Uttar Pradesh.
Capacity Expansion to Tackle Overcrowding
One of the most significant aspects of this merger is the substantial increase in coach capacity. By expanding from 12 to 24 coaches, the Railways aims to address the persistent issue of overcrowding, particularly along the busy Kanpur-Pratapgarh corridor. This upgrade ensures that the increased demand on this newly formed long-distance route can be met with better comfort and reliability.
According to official statements, this initiative reflects the commitment of Indian Railways to optimize network efficiency while prioritizing the needs of the common passenger. Travelers are advised to check the official IRCTC website or the NTES app for updated schedule timings as the transition to the new integrated service takes effect.
