The North Eastern Railway’s Lucknow Division is introducing 25 automated vending machines called Lakh Khazana at various railway stations. These machines will provide snacks and beverages to passengers 24 hours a day. The project aims to improve passenger convenience and promote digital payments across the division.
ℹ: Eastern Railway signalling upgrade: Electronic Interlocking to be installed at 32 stations।
Where are these machines installed and how do they work
The vending machines are being placed at station concourses, platforms, and entry gates for easy access. Currently, one machine is at the DRM’s office, four at Lucknow Junction, one at Aishbagh Junction, and one at Daliganj Junction. More machines will be installed at other stations soon. These machines operate fully on a digital payment system and accept UPI payments to reduce the need for cash.
What is the impact on passengers and the Digital India goal
DRM Gaurav Agrawal stated that these machines will function like ATMs for cashless transactions. This will help reduce crowding at stations and make transactions more transparent. Passengers will now have access to food and drinks even late at night. The railway officials believe this initiative is a step toward the Digital India campaign and will provide a seamless travel experience.
