Central Railway has officially announced the extension of the traffic and power block at the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) until August 21, 2026. This ongoing disruption is essential to facilitate the major station redevelopment project being executed by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), specifically focusing on foundation work and infrastructure upgrades at Platform Nos. 16 and 17.
- Extended Block Duration: Traffic and power block at CSMT extended until August 21, 2026.
- Short-Termination Points: Several key Express trains will terminate at Dadar or Thane instead of CSMT.
- Weekend Maintenance: Additional mega blocks scheduled for Sunday, August 9, 2026, across Central and Western suburban lines.
- Passenger Advisory: Commuters are urged to check the Yatri app for real-time updates and plan journeys accordingly.
Impact on Mail and Express Services
Due to the infrastructure work, passengers traveling on long-distance routes must take note of revised termination points. Train No. 12810 Howrah – CSMT Express, Train No. 12112 Amravati – CSMT Express, and Train No. 22120 Madgaon – CSMT Tejas Express will now conclude their journeys at Dadar station. Furthermore, Train No. 12134 Mangaluru – CSMT Express will be short-terminated at Thane station.
Mega Block Disruptions on August 9
In addition to the long-term redevelopment work, Central and Western Railways have scheduled a mega block for Sunday, August 9, 2026. On the Central Line, slow services between Matunga and Mulund will be diverted to fast lines from 11:05 AM to 3:55 PM, likely resulting in 15-minute delays. Harbour Line services between CSMT and Bandra/Chunabhatti will remain suspended from 11:10 AM to 4:40 PM, though special services will operate between Panvel and Kurla.
Western Railway will implement a jumbo block between Bandra and Goregaon from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM, which will lead to the cancellation of certain CR Harbour Line services and select Churchgate-Goregaon slow locals. While Trans-Harbour and Uran lines will operate normally, passengers are strongly advised to utilize the Yatri app for live status and consider extra BEST bus services to navigate these disruptions efficiently.
