The infrastructure development at Panchgachiya Railway Station in Bihar’s Saharsa district has achieved a significant breakthrough with the installation of the first pillar for its new foot overbridge (FOB) on Monday, July 27, 2026. This vital project aims to streamline passenger movement and drastically improve safety standards on the busy Saharsa-Saraigarh rail section. Key highlights of the project include:
- Total project cost: Rs 3.69 crore.
- Target completion: Within eight months from the commencement date.
- Accessibility features: Dedicated ramps for differently-abled passengers and a 15-meter long staircase.
- Objective: Eliminating track crossing risks and reducing a 1.5-kilometer detour for local residents.
Improving Passenger Safety and Connectivity
Currently, passengers and local residents arriving from the eastern side of the platform face significant inconvenience, often having to take a 1.5-kilometer detour to reach a railway crossing. The new foot overbridge is designed to solve this issue by providing a direct, safe transit path between platforms, effectively curbing the dangerous practice of crossing railway tracks.
Project Execution and Timeline
Following an official approval process, the project saw its foundation work begin in May 2026, shortly after the initial anticipation for an April start. The site is currently a hive of activity, with eight pits already excavated to support the structure.
The project is being executed by Samastipur-based contractor Rajaram Rai. The work is being carried out under the close supervision of ADEEN D.K. Vibhuti and IOW Manoj Kumar Sah. The entire initiative is being steered under the expert guidance of Samastipur Division DRM Jyotiprakash Mishra and Senior DEN Co-ordination Sanjay Kumar. With the first pillar now firmly in place, the railway authorities are confident in meeting the aggressive eight-month timeline, which will bring much-needed relief to the daily commuters of the Saharsa-Supaul rail belt.
