The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala has achieved a significant milestone by rolling out the first rake of 20 modern broad-gauge Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) passenger coaches for the Bangladesh Railway. This shipment marks the beginning of a major export contract aimed at strengthening cross-border rail infrastructure and improving passenger travel experiences in the region.
- The first rake includes 3 AC sleepers, 3 AC chair cars, 12 non-AC chair cars, and 2 power cars.
- This delivery is part of a larger 200-coach export order valued at approximately ₹915 crore.
- The project is funded by the European Investment Bank and facilitated through RITES Ltd.
- The remaining coaches are scheduled for phased delivery until December 2027.
Advanced Engineering and Passenger Comfort
These LHB coaches have been meticulously customized to suit the specific operational requirements of Bangladesh. To handle high passenger density, the coaches feature reinforced roofs and specialized 415V electrical systems. Beyond structural enhancements, the interior design focuses on modern amenities, including integrated CCTV surveillance systems for safety, as well as dedicated prayer rooms and baby care rooms to provide a more comfortable journey for all passengers.
Commitment to Safety and Regional Ties
Safety remains a top priority in this manufacturing project. The coaches are built in strict adherence to the European Standard EN 15227 for crashworthiness, which ensures superior protection in the event of an impact. This export initiative builds upon a successful history of cooperation between India and Bangladesh, following a previous supply of 120 coaches delivered during 2015-16. By integrating these high-tech, safe, and comfortable LHB coaches into their fleet, Bangladesh Railway is set to significantly upgrade its regional transit standards, fostering better connectivity and stronger bilateral relations.
