Banaras Railway Station is getting a new 12-meter wide third footover bridge to make travel easier for passengers. This project is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Redevelopment Scheme. The new bridge will connect platform number one to eight, reducing the heavy rush on existing bridges.

What are the key features of the new footover bridge?

The new bridge will be 105 meters long and 12 meters wide. It will include stairs, escalators for both going up and down, and elevators to ensure all platforms are accessible. To make way for this construction, the RPF building on platform one and a part of the reception hall at the second entrance will be demolished.

How will this benefit the passengers at Banaras Station?

With over 40 trains running daily, including Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains, the station sees a huge crowd. The third bridge will stop congestion and allow people to move quickly between platforms. Additionally, the bridge will have small shops selling local GI products and ODOP items, similar to international stations.

What is the current status of the project?

North Eastern Railway General Manager Uday Borwankar inspected the site on June 2, 2026, and ordered the work to be finished on time with high quality. Construction is already active on platforms four and five. The project follows the Ministry of Railways’ plan to redevelop 1275 stations across India.

Bridge Width 12 Meters
Bridge Length 105 Meters
Connectivity Platform 1 to 8
Facilities Escalators, Elevators, and Shops
