Bilaspur Railway Station is set for a massive security overhaul as authorities move to implement high-tech surveillance, including advanced Facial Recognition Systems (FRS), to curb criminal activities. The decision was finalized during a high-level Railway Security Committee review meeting held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Inspector General’s office, focusing on creating a safer environment for rail passengers.
Key highlights of the new security initiative include:
• Implementation of state-of-the-art CCTV and facial recognition technology.
• Creation of a comprehensive digital criminal database within one month.
• Intensified night patrolling and mandatory 100% checks for trains halting at night.
• Joint task forces involving RPF, GRP, and district police to combat drug trafficking.
• Strict enforcement against illegal scrap trade under the RPUP Act.
Strengthening Surveillance and Coordination
To ensure the system works effectively, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) will receive a digital database containing records of habitual criminals, drug traffickers, and missing children from District Police Superintendents (SPs). This intelligence-sharing mechanism is designed to track offenders in real-time as they move through railway premises. Inspector General Ramgopal Garg of the Bilaspur Range, who led the meeting, emphasized that the goal is to build an impregnable security grid through seamless coordination between various law enforcement agencies.
Combating Crime and Illegal Activities
Beyond technology, the authorities have mandated a crackdown on the illegal transport of narcotics, including cannabis, heroin, and synthetic drugs. Furthermore, the railways will take strict action against those involved in the theft of railway property under the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act (RPUP Act).
Addressing security concerns, particularly following incidents like those reported at Pendra Road, the administration has ordered strict control over anti-social gatherings at stations during late-night hours. The meeting saw the participation of key officials, including ADRM Shri Shriwas, Deputy Inspector General Shri Rajnesh Singh, and Superintendents of Police from Bilaspur, Korba, Raipur, and other surrounding districts. These combined efforts aim to significantly reduce crime rates and provide a safer travel experience for thousands of daily passengers across the Bilaspur division.
